Licence and activation

How the licence works, from the trial to the version you keep. One rule first: Nucleum Hub never stands between you and your home. Without a licence it shows only its activation screen, and Home Assistant, its app and your automations keep working as before.

The trial

  • It starts on its own when you add the integration: 60 minutes by the clock, every feature, on one home. No card, no e-mail.
  • Once per Home Assistant installation, remembered by our server: reinstalling does not start it again. Your Home Assistant needs internet to start it.
  • Before it, the demo shows the same screens on a made-up house, for as long as you like.
  • When it ends, Nucleum Hub shows only the screen to activate a licence (below) until you paste a key.

Activate a key

  1. Buy a plan on the pricing page. Your key comes from us by e-mail, right after payment. Keep the e-mail: we keep only a fingerprint of the key.
  2. In Home Assistant, open Settings › Devices & services › Nucleum Hub › Configure, and paste the key.
  3. The integration activates it online for this home, then checks it with our server by itself. Everything comes back on the spot, with your setup as you left it.

The same Configure checks the licence on demand, or removes it from this Home Assistant so that you can activate it on another one.

Without a licence

After the trial, when a subscription ends, or after a refund, Nucleum Hub shows only the screen to activate a licence, with a button to Home Assistant. Nothing is deleted: your setup stays in Home Assistant. Your home keeps running, and you control it from the Home Assistant app.

When a monthly payment does not go through, you have 7 days of grace: everything keeps working, with a band that says so, while Paddle e-mails you a link to pay. If the 7 days pass without a payment, the licence stops and we send you one e-mail to say so.

One home, unlimited screens

  • One licence covers one home: one Home Assistant installation, with as many screens and users as you like.
  • A second, test Home Assistant can run on the same licence. It shows a permanent “Test” badge, and stops 7 days after its last check with our server.
  • A second home needs its own licence.

Homes without internet

The integration checks the licence in your Home Assistant, and your screens need no internet. Your Home Assistant needs to reach our server now and then.

PlanIf your Home Assistant is offline
TrialNeeds internet when you add the integration.
Monthly subscriptionChecked about once a day. Without these checks the licence stops 7 days after the end of the month you paid for.
One-time licenceNeeds one successful check after its first 14 days, within the 90 days after them; then it works without internet. After 30 days without a check, Nucleum Hub asks you to connect Home Assistant, so it keeps getting the security fixes. If no check succeeds in those 90 days, Nucleum Hub asks you to connect Home Assistant to confirm your licence.

Moving to new hardware

  • Restoring a Home Assistant backup keeps your licence.
  • A fresh install: move the licence yourself, up to 3 times in 12 months, from Configure. The test installation does not count.
  • More moves, or selling the house with the licence: write to support and we transfer it.

The monthly subscription

  • It renews every month until you cancel, and brings every new version while it runs. Paddle takes the payments.
  • Cancel any time, in Paddle’s customer portal, from the link in Paddle’s e-mails, or on Cancel your subscription here. It ends with the month you paid for.
  • Your first payment back within 14 days; monthly renewals are not refunded. Cancelling within 14 days of the first payment refunds it and ends the licence at once.

The one-time licence

Yours to use forever, on one home, with every new version for one year. After that year you keep, forever, the last version released in it, with the security fixes of its LTS line: once a year one version is marked LTS (long-term support), and each LTS line gets security fixes for at least 5 years. If a newer version is installed when your year ends, the dashboard tells you, and you reinstall your LTS version from HACS. More years of updates can be bought later; their price is not set yet.

The licence is temporary for its first 14 days (the refund window). After one successful check it is permanent, and never switched off by itself. If we ever stop for good, we publish a final version without the licence check.
