Requirements and compatibility
What you need to run Nucleum Hub, what it works with, and how the licence protects it. Not sure about your tablet? Open the demo on it.
Home Assistant
- Version: Home Assistant 2026.3 or newer.
- Installation types: Home Assistant OS, Container, Core and Supervised. Nucleum Hub installs as an integration, not as an add-on, so it runs on all of them.
- An administrator account for the install and the first start. Screens can then use any account; screens without admin rights never change the common setup.
- HACS for the one-click install. Without it, the integration is a zip you unzip into your configuration folder.
Screens and browsers
- Browsers: Chrome / Edge 105+, Safari 16+, Firefox 121+.
- Tested on: iPhone, iPad, MacBook, a Windows PC and the Honor Pad X8a Android tablet.
- Without a promise: Fire tablets, other kiosk tablets and TVs often work, but we cannot promise it until we have tested one. Try the demo there first.
- On a wall tablet we suggest Fully Kiosk Browser (its PLUS licence is sold separately by its maker) or the Home Assistant Companion app. See Companion app and Fully Kiosk.
What some features need
- Energy: the power sensors from Home Assistant’s Energy settings, or sensors Nucleum Hub finds by itself; costs from Home Assistant’s cost statistics, a fixed price or a price sensor, or prices you type.
- Music library and queue: the library, search and playback go through Home Assistant’s Music Assistant integration, on any installation. The full history and queue list also need the Music Assistant add-on on Home Assistant OS and a screen signed in as an administrator; elsewhere the queue shows the current and the next track.
- Solar forecast: the forecast linked in the Energy settings, Forecast.Solar or Solcast.
- The tablet’s battery next to the clock: from Fully Kiosk, from the browser where it reports it, or from the Companion app’s sensors.
Network
- Your screens need only your Home Assistant. Its code loads nothing from the internet: fonts and everything else are built in. A music cover that Home Assistant and the Music Assistant in your home cannot show is converted inside your home by our integration. The one exception is a cover our integration cannot provide either: the screen then fetches it from the music service on the internet, as a last resort, unless you switch this off in Settings.
- Your Home Assistant needs internet now and then, for the licence and for updates. The integration talks only to
api.nucleumhub.com, and HACS downloads updates from GitHub: allow both if you filter outgoing traffic. How long a home can stay offline on each plan is on the pricing page.
How the licence protects it
- A licence key comes by e-mail after you buy. You paste it once, in Home Assistant: Settings › Devices & services › Nucleum Hub › Configure.
- One home per licence: one Home Assistant installation, with unlimited screens and users, plus one test installation that shows a permanent “Test” badge.
- Checked in your Home Assistant: the licence is a signed token that our integration checks itself, and renews with our server from time to time. Your screens need no internet.
- Moves: restoring a backup keeps the licence; you move it to new hardware yourself up to 3 times in 12 months, more through support.
- Without a valid licence (after the trial, when a subscription ends, after a refund) Nucleum Hub shows only the screen to activate a licence. Your home keeps running in Home Assistant, and you control it from the Home Assistant app.
Updates and support period
- Monthly subscription: every new version while it runs.
- One-time licence: every new version for one year. After that you keep the last version released in that year, with the security fixes of its LTS line.
- Security fixes: each LTS line gets them for at least 5 years. The end dates are on the releases page.
- Updates arrive in Home Assistant under Settings › Updates, with notes, and you can go back to an earlier version from HACS.
Compatibility policy
Which Home Assistant versions each Nucleum Hub version supports, and how fast we fix what a new Home Assistant release breaks, is published here before launch.
